Support My #JDRFWalk Journey
I am participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes to raise funds to advance type 1 diabetes research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where the body attacks insulin producing cells in the pancreas - it is different from Type 2 that can be managed by diet and exercise. Type 1 can only be managed by injecting insulin and right now there is no cure.
On March 1, 2018 Dale was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and our lives changed forever - or as Dale says "we think - because what if there is a cure?" Dale is hopeful that one day there will be a cure but this is dependent on the research of JDRF and we need your help. Right now to stay alive Dale needs to inject herself with insulin four times a day and test her blood at least 4 times a day. She needs to count carbs to manage her sugar levels and follow a rigid schedule. While she is doing amazingly well - this is a tough journey for a child - and takes a lot of spontaneity out of life. She can never have a break from this diagnosis and will need to manage this her whole life. Thankfully she is surrounded by family and friends who support and love her and who will be alongside her every step of the way.
There is a lot of amazing research going on right now - new technology to monitor blood sugar levels with less finger pricks, new insulin pumps, artificial pancreases under development and research to find a cure. Every little bit helps - please consider sponsoring Dale and our family on this walk - also feel free to join us. THANK YOU in advance - Sherri, Will, DALE & Gwen
