Support My #JDRFWalk Journey
My grandson, Benjamin, describes why I am participating in this fundraising.
“My name is Ben Ferguson Jr and I am 12 years old.
On February 26th 2018, my mom brought me into emerge at Michael Garon/East General hospital in Toronto for a stomach bug. After an hour of waiting, the emergency triage doctors did a blood check as part of their examination. They discovered I had a blood sugar level of 33. The average blood sugar for a non-diabetic is 4 to 6. This means I was hours away from a diabetic coma and possibly death. Shortly after I was diagnosed with type 1 and put in intensive care, then transferred to Sick Kids. I owe a huge thanks to the doctors and nurses at Sick Kids and Michael Garon for the support and care.
It has been a tough start but I am starting to get used to my new life as a type 1 diabetic.
Please donate to the JDRF in order to cure type 1 for good. It is important that we raise awareness for this disease.”
