Support My #JDRFWalk Journey
Hi, my name is Teagan and I'm 11 years old. I was diagnosed on March 10, 2013, when I was 5. Since then I've been on injections, then the Animas Ping pump and now my Omipod. I finger poke and have a Dexcom G4 to help me keep track of my sugars.
I play hockey for the Aurora Panthers, I'm on the volleyball and basketball teams at school, I ski on snow and water. I also love to swim, run track and field, cross country, biker, rollerblade and skateboard. I am learning to play baritone and love to draw.
Whenever I am doing something important, diabetes is one of my last thoughts. But when my Dex alarm goes off, I have to stop what I'm doing and test my sugars, no matter where I am. I've had to wait in the dressing room for my sugars to come back up, before I can go on the ice and play, even in a tournament. I've had to stop my work at school and give myself insulin, so I don't go higher which makes it really hard to focus on my learning. I have to wake up and night and drink my GoGoSqueeze or Juice so I don't die. That's the most important thing.
The reason that you should donate your money to me is that Type 1 diabetes doesn't get very much attention, but this disease is as bad as any other. Insulin lets me stay alive and do all the things I love, but it's not a cure.
Please help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
